The Mountain City Bronzes

The Mountain City Bronzes - Madeleine McLaughlin What major emotion did the story evoke in you as a reader? I was shocked
about the sculptor. The author was very descriptive about what he did and I really hated him.

What are the most revealing scenes? Kevin’s father looking in the sculptor’s window.

Lessons from the Lemonade Stand: A Common Sense Primer on Investing

Lessons from the Lemonade Stand: A Common Sense Primer on Investing - James Berman How do you define the central theme. I can see myself as an investor in a startup company. Learning that I might not receive returns from my investment and that the money I put up is at risk.

What did you think of the ending? I liked the last minute advice and the repeat of the main part of the book. “If something sounds too good to be true, it usually is.”

Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful? All information is presented as interesting. The insight provided by the author will help so many people if they take the time to read this short but very informative and interesting book.

Semmant

Semmant - Vadim Babenko Consider the ending. Did you expect it or were you surprised? I was somewhat surprised and I really liked the build up to what happened.

Is the story plot or character driven? Character driven. The author writes very well and I liked each character. Each seemed to have so much action in the.

Which secondary character resonated most with you and why? Lidia - She absolutely got her revenge for how Bogdan treated her.

Disclosure - I received a free copy of the book which did not affect my honest opinion.

Sex and Death in the American Novel

Sex and Death in the American Novel - Sarah Martinez Formatting / Appearance. Formatting and appearance were perfect.

What I didn't like. Agreeing with another book club member, I did not like all the vulgar language. But I guess there are only so many ways to say certain words. Granted the vulgar words were not every sentence. That helped in reading and understanding the flow.

What have you read that is similar to this book? Other than some classics, have not read anything similar.

Disclosure: I received a review copy of this book from the author.

Bad Traffick: A Leine Basso Novel (Leine Basso Series) (Volume 2)

Bad Traffick - D.V. Berkom Compare two of the characters in this book. Leine - Trained assassin, turned body guard. Santa - Homicide detective that worked to prove Leine innocent of 3 murders.

What part would you change in the story, and why? Would have had Leine finding Selina's 9-year-old sister. And had a stronger ending for her and Santa.

Do you find the characters convincing? The character development just wasn't as strong as it needed to be. Especially on such a volatile subject matter as this.

The Symbolon: Book 2 of The SIbylline Trilogy (Volume 2)

The Symbolon - Delia J. Colvin
Who was your favorite character? Alex - he never gave up on his lost love.

Consider the main character: what does he or she believe in? He wants to be happy. Feels like he's been given a second chance. He risks everything to be with Valeria.

At the end of the book, do you feel hope for the characters? Yes, I have hope for them. They are free, as long as they stay out of Kristina's clutches.

What are some of the major themes of this book? To provide a love story about immortals. It would take any reader to far away lands.

A Tale of the Other Kind: A Therian Novel

A Tale of the Other Kind - Leandi Cameron How does the setting figure into the book? Every fantasy book has a scary forest in it. It fits leopards, vampires and ghosts. In this case, it was perfect for the world of shape shifters.

Who in this book would you most like to meet? Would like to meet Kai. He is so gentle and responsible for the people around him.

How did the main character change during the novel? Kai had to change everything after he discovered what he was. It was sometimes sad as the reader is able to connect with the changes he had to go through as a person.

Was the book different from what you expected? Totally different, did not expect it to be such an enjoyable read.

Trapped

Trapped - George A. Bernstein Did the book end the way you expected? Yes, what I thought was a little different than the ending but very similar.

Top 3 things I liked about the whole book – The characters (actions), honestly felt like I was watching some movie on Lifetime; The length was perfect. The story moved along nicely and did not feel rushed; The writing style with no editing/grammar errors. So nice to find a book/author that takes pride in their work.

Top 3 things I liked about the main character – Jackee never give up hope. Her determination for everyone to see the bad person for what he is. Her desire to help others, the little things mentoring youth, paying for someone college, helping someone obtain a green card.

Top 3 things I liked about the setting in this book – It was different. Nice to know some authors do not think zombies and vampires are part of a story. The author did not provide a city/state/country. I can picture this happening anywhere in the world. Yes, there is reference to the USA but it does not fully state that. The suspense/mystery on how the would-be killer will strike next.

Marching With Caesar: Civil War

Marching With Caesar: Civil War - R.W. Peake

What did you think was the most interesting part of the book? Why? The most interesting part. Well, let’s just say I found nothing I did not find interesting in this book.

What did you enjoy about this book? The amazing amount of information provided. It is nice to know the author did not cut out any relevant information to make the book shorter.

Was this a page-turning book? Everyone one has a different idea of a page-turning book. For me, yes I kept turning the pages (losing sleep) just because I wanted to know what happened next.

Never Give in to Fear: Laughing All the Way Up From Rock Bottom

Never Give in to Fear: Laughing All the Way Up From Rock Bottom - Marti MacGibbon Central theme in this story. Not having an alcohol or drug problem I cannot relate, being female and knowing that the sex trade is something that happens daily is something I can relate with.

What did you think of the ending? I felt the ending wrapped everything up nicely. Knowing that Marti is now recovered and living a productive life thrilled this reader.

If you were to talk with the author, what would you want to know? I would like to know how/why she allowed someone to talk her into traveling to Japan. I understand she thought she was going to a job, but the out of the way airport, the weird meeting, everything just seemed off.

If you could rewrite the ending, would you? No, but I would have liked to know more about her life in rehab. The first few month or even years would be interesting reading.
